  1. I noticed in our Christmas pageant Sunday at Trinity that "Mary" (a young girl) rode the pony into church sidesaddle. Like the cartoon. Was that common in the first century?

  2. Ormonde, I checked around and found the following in the Dictionary of Biblical Imagery:

    One is reminded of the Eastern iconographic tradition in which Christ rides his donkey side-saddle - the traditional posture of a woman, not a "warrier".
